Tr’ochëk: Wildlife

Moose

Moose

Prior to the founding of Dawson City, the Klondike River valley and its marshy flats were prime moose country. Tr’ochëk was used as a base camp for moose hunting up the nearby creek valleys. In addition to moose, other animals in the area include fox, rabbit, ruffed grouse, raven, martin and beaver. Two species of salmon migrate to this area, the large Chinook or King salmon and the smaller, but more numerous, Chum or Dog salmon. Other fish include Arctic grayling and ling cod, and inconnu.
